Bird and Flower

“Bird and Flower” is a homage to the power of modern femininity and all its forms. Juno Shen’s collection features symbols of nature presented in the tradition of Chinese bird-and-flower paintings (花⻦ 图) while casting these symbols in a new light.

The symbolism in bird-and-flower paintings are repeated and reinforced over centuries so that they form their own language with which works can be understood. By combining the praying mantis, a symbol of female strength, with the delicate orchid, a symbol of feminine beauty, the artist tells a story of the multifaceted nature of women.
